Byline: About an Alpine Saddler named Roger Dorig.

Theme: The video is based on Roger Dorig's occupation as an Alpine Saddler and what it means to him.

Structure: The video is based on the character Roger Dorig who we are introduced to. Roger is an Alpine Saddler so he creates little decorations you see on belts and shoes. We are introduced to Roger's environment where he works with an awesome panning shot with the title 120 as it counts down and the sound of Roger tapping on a piece of metal. This also includes a lot of b rolls with Roger talking in the background.

I thought that the shot worked really well with the title. We see that the front of the workshop is in focus with all his tools and a little bit of blur at the back. They would of used maybe a higher f stop to create the look of this shot.

 This shot was a really nice use depth of field. We see that the two poles frame Roger which is a creative way of introducing the main character. I like how the two poles frame Roger himself which gives the audience a hint of who/what the focus is about.

 We see a lot of close-ups through out this short video. Looking at the detail of Roger working and his detail of his work. These shots work really well with Roger talking in the background. This shot would of used a low f stop because we can see that only the tools on the table are in focused everything else is blurred.

 I really liked this shot because it's not inside the shop. The maker has thought about what they want and has taken the shot from outside Roger's work shop looking inside. We see Roger working and close up of his hands and the window. The look of old rusted wood works well with the short video and colour.

 I like the close up of Rogers detail and we see him working with his tools. This would have used a low f stop maybe around 1.5 to get the fine detail of the piece that is going on the belt.

 We see what Roger has created and the final piece. Nice close up shot of Roger putting the belt around his waist. It works well because It's Roger's own creation and he wears it. Gives the audience a sense of pride Roger has for his work. This shot also tells a lot about his Occupation as a Alpine Saddler.

Nice Wide Shot of Roger in his environment looking at all his tools around his work shop gives it a nice ending. Gives the video a feel of completion as we look at Roger's work shop full of work and tools. I really like the use of space in this shot as well.

Gold Memory

In my memory video. I'm looking back at the time I represented New Zealand in 2012 for the biggest competition which was Out rigging Worlds in Calgary, Canada. I wanted to put something together to show my best memory I've had.

I used mainly close up shots of my medals. I really wanted to look at the detail of each specific medal because I loved the design that each medal had. They were all different and from different countries around the world.

I used a soft instrumental because I thought it went well with the topic. It almost was like a time to look back at the achievements that had been made in the past. So I wanted a soft tone to this video.

In this memory video I used archive videos from Maori television only because I didn't have footage of my own from my worlds experience. In those videos are videos of my team crossing the line in Canada. I thought that it would go well with the memory piece looking back at actual footage from the event. Just to give the audience a peek at what it was like in Canada.

Title: The Photo Man

Byline: Mark Kologi sells and collects a variety of images of personal forgotten pictures from strangers.

Theme: The video is based on memory and looking at images of peoples memories. Looking at his business of selling and his purpose. People sharing a bond with the images that Mark Kologi finds.

Structure: The video is based on memories. We are introduced to Mark Kologi who is the man that sells range of images from strangers. We take a look at his environment and where he sells his pictures. There are a couple of mid close up shots of Kologi talking about what he does and his thoughts. The video concentrates on the photos and memories that he collects and sells. The music is soft and works really well with the camera movement and the idea of the video.

Other Observations

I really like this camera shot and the depth of field as well. They focus deeply on this one image just to give the audience a sense of what they can expect from Marks photographs. I really like the depth of field used in this close up shot.

 Nice mid close up shot of Mark Kologi discussing his thoughts on photos and memories. They would of use a low f stop for this shot. We see that Mark is mainly in focus and the area around him is blurred out.

 I really like this long shot of Mark because we get to see him in his work environment. We see a range of images and stuff surround him which helps the audience to gain a sense of where he works.

Nice close up shot of the a small bunch of images that Mark collects maybe using a small aperture number. Mainly because we see the photos are in focus and everything else is a bit blurry.

This shot almost looks like a nice silhouette and its a nice back shot. We get to see outside. We see what mark has to look at everyday when he opens his garage door. It creates a nice intimate feel for the audience.

Theme: Day in my front yard

This was a memory video I created. It's very quick, in this moving image I tried to imitate the thought of memory and how it may trigger in my mind. I wasn't too sure on an idea that would be able to develop. So i just gave it ago and tried to look at a day in my garden. Using Shallow depth of field and close ups of flowers and my banana trees. I tried using panning shots to create a nice flow with the music.

I don't really enjoy this moving image I made. I do like the camera work and the use of depth of field in my moving image.  In my next moving image editing could be a bit better.

Byline: This is a video about person's memory on a trip to the Italian alps of Friuli, Venezia Giulia.
Mimicking the thought of memory.

Theme: The video's aim is to travel back to Italy. Looking at the memories that the person remembers. It wants us to think about how we look back at memories and how we see things in our mind.

Structure: This is based around a overseas trip. Looking at the experience that this person has taken in the alps. We aren't introduced to any character in this short video. In the video there are various snippets of the trip. The pace begins to pick up slowly through out the video. There are different types of shots used especially wide shots of the scenery at the beginning. Close up shots of different peoples faces. It's almost like the video is looking at the idea of time and looking back.

Obseravations:

  

This is a nice shot of close up. Nice tone which suits the rest of the video. There are also different shots of close ups of people walking in the snow. Which gives the audience a sense of the environment and where the people are. It reminds me of a clock and it represents time/time travel and looking back.

I really liked this shot it definitely caught my attention because the sound of the ice breaking suits the music that plays. It almost feels as if this shot sets the idea of looking back. It's a really good close up shot. The person would of used a high f stop maybe just to make sure that everything was in focus and that there wasn't any shallow depth of field.

Another beautiful extreme wide shot of the scenery. This gives the audience a sense of where the person is and giving them an idea of the environment.

This is a panning shot. In the video this is a shot with a low aperture because we see that only the book is in focus and thats what we focus on. So the aim was to focus on the book as everything else is quite blur.
